Baseball Team Gets 18 Hits in Win

LAURINBURG, N.C.--The Bloomsburg University baseball team collected 18 hits in a 6-3 non-conference victory over host St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Wednesday afternoon in Laurinburg, NC.

Shortstop Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) went 4-for-5 with three runs scored to pace the Huskies offense.

Bloomsburg started the scoring in the top of the second on a triple by Carlos Medina (Lititz/Manheim Twp) that plated Mike Austin (Dallastown/Dallastown), who led off the inning with a single. Senior Kevin Ward (Clifton Heights/Monsignor Bonner) added a second run for the Huskies in the third with an RBI-single that scored Donofry.

Bloomsburg made it 4-0 with a pair of runs in the fourth. Medina started the inning with a single and Donofry followed with his second double of the day. Nick Ferdinand (Bensalem/Archbishop Ryan) drove in Medina with a single and Ward sent Donofry home with a own single.

After St. Andrews got one back in the fourth, the Huskies added two more runs in when both Ferdinand and Austin had run scoring singles.

St. Andrews got two back in the bottom of the eighth, but Matt Kline (Sugarloaf/Hazleton Area) shut the door in the ninth to earn the save. Mitch Troy (Elkton, MD/Cecil College) got the win going the first six innings.

Ferdinand, Ward, and Medina all had three hits for Bloomsburg. Ferdinand had a team-high two RBI. Bloomsburg, now 5-4, plays at Pfeiffer on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
